Reading skills allows students to build or develop their strong foundation, but the higher or seniors teachers, later on, convert it into the necessity of reading skills for this real world. Reading skills allows students to learn maximum from their education. Not only an individual can improve their reading skills alone, there is a great role of teachers from primary education to senior education. So here down are following points which will help students to improve their reading abilities or skills
1. Take various reading materials
Always students should be creative, then only one can be different from other and can be better amongst the huge number of the group. To improve reading skills one should search from everywhere as it will provide the different views given on a particular topic by others, which will give you a clear-cut meaning of the topic you are searching. Many students start learning the things from a particular book which will provide them the views of that only one particular writer and you cannot be able to express your views greatly as compared to one who had research from many materials like magazines, newspaper ads and etc.
2. Relate reading to students
Teachers should give students an selected topic and then they should ask them to write about that or debate can be done on that topic. It will make interest amongst students and they will research the topic and will put their more effort Doing this will increase their searching power and grasping the things easily and in lesser time. These abilities are such now very important to be successful.
3. Should Enjoy the words
As students are so much busy in their reading assignments, teachers should ask them to write phrases or words that they are not able to understand and can bring them into the classroom management the next day. Then classroom discussion session can also be made so that students will get to know the different and new words the students of their classroom had searched. By doing these things the vocabulary skills can be improved easily, and they can get the maximum benefit. In doing all these interests also plays an important role.
4. Develop a record of progress
Help students to create a record of the progress of their reading work. Make a list of the things they have read till yet and give a summary of the things they have learned. Make a different section for challenging phrases and words, make other section for the passages they did not able to understand till now. Review their journals with the students and regularly celebrate the progress they made. At the time of parents teacher meeting, the journals can be shown to parents so that they can also know the progress their ward had made from earlier to today.
5. Make reading a habit not a tool
Along with the material they have got from school which includes books, copies etc. students should be given several different lessons also so that they can read them and make different and new words. Regularly start a discussion on the importance of reading these texts and lessons which they provide extra to them will be helping them in future, this will develop the interest amongst students. by doing these all things students will be able to make interest and will make reading a habit and will not use it as a tool just to pass in exams.
