From past many years, there is an immense growth in the information technology and the health and social care sector. Various software packages are available for the purpose of storing, updating and retrieving the data which is very important for an organisation.
With the help of Information and Communication Technologies, the records can be maintained in the health and social care unit which helps in retrieving the information from the computer systems whenever required. It saves time and cost too. Paper document are not easily accessible at any point of time and they consume a lot of time. A patient will feel an ease if the information is readily available and they are treated with better and organized system.
With the help of Internet, the service users in different areas can be found and tracked easily and it consumes less time. The service user can get all the information in detail about the services which are available and this information can be updated as per the requirement. For e.g. a patient comes for the treatment in the hospital after two months of his first checkup, and then by using the records in the computer all the details can be taken out and the details will be updated after the second round of checkup and it happens after every checkup. ICT consumes lesser time and it is fast. It enhances the efficiency of the activities and matches the work according to the standards. It also increases the care quality and develops accuracy in the activities. The information can be stored on the computers and their backup can be taken so that there will be no chances of loss of information. All the details about patient can be checked and noted down electronically so that the time will be saved and these details can be accessed later on when required. Nowadays, many different devices are used for controlling the health of a patient electronically.
E-Health is another technology which is growing rapidly nowadays. With the use of Internet, the health systems can be improved by using E-Health which is the latest field where new ways of working and thinking are used by the use of Information and Communication technology.
