You are an employee in a care setting in East London. Your manager at the care setting has asked you to review and update their current health and safety workplace policies. In order to do so they will send you for training at health and safety executive (HSE) organisation. HSE is the national independent watchdog for work-related health, safety and illness. They are an independent regulator and act in the public interest to reduce work-related death and serious injury across Great Britain’s workplaces. You will have to produce a series of reports that demonstrate the responsibilities of all health and social care workers in ensuring the health and safety of the health and social care workplace and the people within it.
There are four (4) formal assessment opportunities for this unit:
Your manager at the health and social care setting where you work has asked you to update the health and safety policy manual at the workplace and also to produce an information pack report for the new employees that will be used during the induction process. In this section of the report (1.1) you must review systems, policies and procedures for communicating information on health and safety in the health and social care workplace in accordance with legislative requirements. In the next section (1.2) of your information pack report you must assess the responsibilities for management of health and safety in relation to organisational structures.
After reviewing the information pack report that you have created your manager has requested you to make some amendments to the report. For this section (1.3) you should now analyse health and safety priorities that are appropriate for a specific health and social care workplace setting. For example, you should assess what safety issues would need to be implemented to support their designated service user. A case study can be used in your analysis and can be obtained from the Health and Safety Executive website.
You have finished updating the health and safety policy manual for your health and social care setting. Your line manager has now requested that you write a report that will be presented next month at the East London local authority meeting that demonstrates your understanding of the ways in which health and safety requirements impact on customers and the work of practitioners in the health and social care workplace.
In preparation for the admission of several new residents, your manager has asked you to conduct a risk assessment of the setting and produce a report. In the first section of your report (3.1) you should explain how health and safety policies and practice are monitored and reviewed. In the second section of your report (3.2) you should analyse the effectiveness of health and safety policies and practices in the workplace in promoting a positive health and safe culture. Finally in your report (3.3) you must evaluate own contributions to placing the health and safety needs of individuals at the centre practice. In this section you may want to use Gibbs reflective cycle on reflecting on your own performance.
Task 4 = Self Evaluation.
Write 1 page up to 500 words (A4) self-evaluation of your entire report
