STUDENT NUMBER:

PROPOSED TITLE OF PROJECT:

BRIEFLY DESCRIBE YOUR FIELD OF STUDY:

The study mainly aims to Internet of things (IoT) into Artificial inteligences. Both these technologies are considered to be very powerful, but if used together, i.e. implementing IoT with AI how it can help the world grow or take humanity to another level, later it also presents how the human behaviour will be stimulated so precisely.

WHAT QUESTION DOES YOUR PROJECT SEEK TO ANSWER?

The project mainly seeks to present the changes that will happen, its advantages or disadvantages on combining the two technologies together, i.e. analysing IOT applications on implementation with AI (Merenda, et. al., 2020).

WHAT HYPOTHESIS ARE YOU SEEKING TO TEST?

Building such a device like voice assistant features which can perform multiple tasks which is not only limited to voice recognition but can also perform speech-to-text conversions, dialogue management and question-answer play, etc. which will not only reduce human tasks but also understand pattern of human behaviour simulation accordingly.

WHAT ARE THE PROBABLE PROJECT OUTCOMES?

With the help of IOT devices, and emerging technologies of artificial intelligence, it aims to construct a device with voice assistant technologies which will react as the humans instruct, which means emulating IoT devices and controlling them remotely with AI using a device with voice assistant.

PLEASE PROVIDE A BRIEF BIBLIOGRPAHY OF 2-4 KEY TEXTS FOR YOUR STUDY (USE HARVARD REFERENCE STYLE)

  • Merenda, M., Porcaro, C. and Iero, D., 2020. Edge machine learning for ai-enabled iot devices: A review. Sensors, 20(9), p.2533.

This research paper provides a glimpse about IoT devices when used with AI applications with machine learning models implemented with it, what changes occurred and all the possible outcomes derived from it.

  • Atlam, H.F., Azad, M.A., Alzahrani, A.G. and Wills, G., 2020. A Review of Blockchain in Internet of Things and AI. Big Data and Cognitive Computing, 4(4), p.28.

This research paper provides a knowledge about how the quality of life changes for humans when physical objects and the virtual technology is connected and communicated, providing all the benefits and a blockchain to understand the implementation.

  • HaddadPajouh, H., Khayami, R., Dehghantanha, A., Choo, K.K.R. and Parizi, R.M., 2020. AI4SAFE-IoT: An AI-powered secure architecture for edge layer of Internet of things. Neural Computing and Applications, 32(20), pp.16119-16133.

In this research paper, the trends emerging from these technologies and understanding the architecture, infrastructure and pattern of IoT and AI is discussed majorly. Along with it, AI security methods are also implemented.

Section 2: Technical

PLEASE DESCRIBE YOUR PROJECT IN TECHNICAL TERMS:

IOT basically means a network of things/objects or can say wireless systems that is used for exchanging and connecting data with other devices. On the other hand, AI is typically a machine with an ability to perform tasks as the same level as human intelligence. Now, combining AI with IOT will help change the business world in many sectors to grow rapidly with maximum efficiency and spawn new products and services. This can be explained with the help of a project about voice assistants. Voice assistants is basically a cloud based service which follows instructions like making call, playing music, or showing directions, explaining something verbally as directed by the user. There are a few very popular assistants like Alexa, Google assistant or Siri. They all serve the same purpose approximately (Atlam, et. al., 2020).

The project is divided in two parts. The first part includes an involvement of small microprocessor inside the Echo dot, for example for listening the sound continuously and then waiting for the keyboard spotting and the second part include the data firstly being triggered, then sent to cloud platform to process it on a larger model.

WHAT EXISTING LAB EQUIPMENT DO YOU NEED ACCESS TO UNDERTAKE YOUR PROPOSED PROJECT:

The equipment necessary while perfroming this project are RPi HDMI , RPi Headphone audio jack , ReSpeaker 2-Mics Pi HAT cards. These are the cards which will be used majorly in part one of the project.

PLEASE LIST ANY MINOR EQUIPMENT YOU MUST PURCHASE TO COMPLETE YOUR RESEARCH PROJECT: (eg, switches, resistors, raspberry pi, arduino etc)

This project is divided in two parts. In the first part,  Arduino Nano 33 BLE Sense microcontroller will be used and in the second part, RaspberryPi will be used. So, the minor requirement for this project are Arduino Nano 33 BLE Sense microcontroller and RaspberryPi.

PLEASE LIST ANY MAJOR EQUIPMENT YOU REQUIRE TO COMPLETE YOUR RESEARCH PROJECT ALONG WITH LINKS TO WHERE IT MAY BE PURCHASED (eg a Drone, mobile phone etc).

A mobile phone is required for testing the model at the end. Any smartphone can be used for testing the model.

HAVE YOU DISCUSSED THE FEASIBILITY OF YOUR PROJECT WITH A MEMBER OF THE TECHNICAL TEAM? IF SO WHO?

Yes, the feasibility is discussed with the team member so that an effective decision regarding the project can be made.

(staff use only) Project Approved by Technical Team?

NO

Please comment on the Feasibility of the project:

With your answers to the previous questions in mind, please describe the main ethical challenges of your research project and how you propose to mitigate them. Your discussion may include material not covered in the above questions. Please be as through as possible:

Although the aim of these devices is to provide human satisfaction in terms of learning, daily tasks or reduce small tasks, but it somehow failed to accomplish at that level as there was lack of understanding, accuracy and reliability. This device fails to read children’s mind and cannot respond correctly to the queries raised by children. During the pandemic, when all the children were studying online, these devices could be a lot more helpful for online study purpose but it failed to recognise the speech and voice of children. Behaviour of children is a lot more different than adults. Text formation, voice pitch or syntax, grammar is a bit different and difficult to understand for the device (HaddadPajouh, et. al., 2020). One more disadvantage of this device is that if the device starts working properly, i.e. read children’s mind and respond correctly, it can damage the child’s confidence, giving a false alarm to the child on being correct, even if not, which will harm him in the future tasks. One more issue was the noisy environment. It does not respond that much correctly in a noisy background, which turns out to be a negative point about the device.

A solution for these problems is proposed later that can help children use the technology. An advanced device which will understand the pitch of user and categorize them as child, adult or senior citizen. Later if the child is using the technology, then understanding the child’s mind and correctly the child first, then responding accordingly, so the child would not think if he/she is correct. For noisy background, removing the background noise then understanding the user’s problem.
